Recommendations for children
Having young children ourselves, we’d thought it would be useful to pull together some local places and activities for families, alongside the ‘Walks’ section of our welcome pack.
Days Out
• Puxton Park – a firm favourite for us, just 15 minutes up the motorway and a great all weather family day out
• Noah’s Ark is 30 minutes up the motorway but well worth the drive with elephants, giraffe, lions, rhinos and spectacled bears, as well as ample play areas both indoors and out
• Brean Theme Park – open April-November, with 40 rides and attractions to suit all ages
• Further afield you’ll find The Wave, which is fab for watching people surf (entry as a spectator is £2, and there’s places to eat and an outdoor play area too! It’s just up the motorway, on the edge of Bristol (25 mins)
• Also on the outskirts of Bristol is The Wild Place Project - a great day out for all the family!
Local Play Areas
• Our nearest play area, with skate/ramp park, basketball court and playing field is next to Mark Village Hall, Vole Road, Mark, TA9 4NY; a few minutes’ drive or 10-15 minute cycle on country roads. Free parking at village hall.
• Largest play area in the area (and our favourite), Berrow play area is next to playing fields on the main road through the village, and can be incorporated with a walk to the beach starting at the Co-op shop (see Walks section of your welcome pack). Free parking opposite Co-op and a short walk from the park.
• Apex Park, Highbridge is just a 10 minute drive with a large free car park and offers an easy circular walk around lakes with plenty of wildlife, and a good size play area on route. The path is tarmac, with areas of slight up and down but not steep. Don’t forget your duck food!
Activities
• Brean Splash – family friendly swimming with indoor slides, indoor and outdoor splash zones, as well as baby pool and main pool
• Weston Water Adventure Park is along Weston’s main seafront with a play area, picnic area, sandpit and splash pad. Open April-September with a small entry fee.
• Ocean Adventurers, Cheddar – our favourite soft play with lots to explore and do, and a very good café!
• Brean Play – large soft play with different areas aimed at ages up to 11
• The Ritz Cinema, Burnham-on-Sea is a bargain at £4 per ticket, offer great deals on drinks and sweets for children and show most of the latest films.
• If you’re looking for arcades and games, Weston Pier is worth a stroll along, with an extensive arcade centre at the end. Burnham amusements on the seafront is smaller, but adequate.
• Fancy something more adventurous? Check out Mendip Adventure Centre 20 mins from site for a whole range of activities including dry slope tobogganing!
